Eminence Designer 1 Update
27-Feb-2020  (with updated driver data from 06-Jan-2020)

When available, we offer free maintenance updates to users of Eminence Designer. "Maintenance updates" are minor revisions of the program and are identified by changing the last segment of the version number such as 1.0.1 to 1.0.2, etc. They are not version upgrades where the first segment of the version number changes such as 1.0.2 to 2.0.0. New versions must be purchased.

Maintenance updates are intended only for users who have already installed Eminence Designer because they contain only the files necessary to update your existing copy of the program. If you have not yet installed Eminence Designer, then you should install your original copy from the installation disc you received when you purchased a license for the program. If you have not yet purchased a copy of Eminence Designer, then please locate an Eminence dealer. We only provide technical support.

We describe how to identify the version of your existing copy of Eminence Designer below.

Before Updating...

Please consider the following before updating Eminence Designer. In addition to including new BB6 files for new drivers and factory designs, this update also includes some replacement BB6 files for existing drivers and factory designs that have changed. In order to enforce a consistent naming convention, some of the file names of the replacement files have changed. This can create some confusion because, after the update is installed, you may have more than one BB6 file for some drivers and/or factory designs (an old one and a new one).

Most users don’t need the old files and we recommend that users who are skilled with Microsoft Windows delete the old driver parameter and factory design files before installing the update. The reason we say “skilled with Microsoft Windows” is because the driver parameter and factor design files are stored in a system area of Windows that is normally hidden from users. Therefore you must make the system folders and files visible and it can be a bit technical for novice users. If the following steps are confusing and you don’t have a friend or colleague to help, then we suggest that you skip this section and proceed directly to the “Update Instructions” section below. If you are skilled with Microsoft Windows, here are the steps to remove the old BB6 files:

  1. Launch the Windows Control Panel (Start > Control Panel).
  2. Click on “Appearance and Personalization”.
  3. Click on “Show hidden files and folders”. The Folder Options dialog box should open and its “View” tab should be pre-selected.
  4. In the Files and Folder section, locate the “Hidden files and folders” options and select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”.
  5. Uncheck (turn off) “Hide extensions for known file types”.
  6. Uncheck (turn off) “Hide protected operating system files”.
  7. Click on the “OK” button of the Folder Options dialog to accept the changes and close the dialog.
  8. Close the Windows Control Panel.
  9. Using the Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where the driver parameters were originally installed. On 64-bit versions of Windows this will usually be at C:\Program Files (x86)\Eminence\Designs\. On 32-bit versions of Windows this will usually be at C:\Program Files\Eminence\Designs\.
  10. Delete the BB6 files in the “Designs” folder that are named with a driver name. Be careful to avoid deleting any cabinet designs that you have saved here because they will be BB6 files also.
  11. Open the “Factory Designs” folder inside the “Designs” folder. Delete all of the BB6 files in the “Factory Designs” folder but do not delete the folder, itself. We also recommend using care here to avoid deleting any cabinet designs that you may have accidentally or intentionally saved in this folder as well.
  12. Navigate to the virtual storage area that mirrors the previous location. On 64-bit versions of Windows this will usually be at C:\Users\[Your Account Folder]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eminence\Designs\. On 32-bit versions of Windows this will usually be at C:\Users\[Your Account Folder]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eminence\Designs\. Important: You must substitute the name of your account folder for [Your Account Folder] in the paths above. For example, if your name is “Alin” and you used your name for your Windows user account, then the virtual storage path on a 64-bit version of Windows would probably be: C:\Users\Alin\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eminence\Designs\.
  13. Look for driver parameter and factory design files here and repeat Steps 10 and 11 if you find them. Again, be careful not to delete any BB6 files that you want to save such as cabinet designs that you have created.
  14. Finally, return to the Windows Control Panel and restore your “Appearance and Personalization” settings so the system folders and files are no longer visible.

Update Instructions

Installing an Eminence Designer maintenance update involves the following steps:

  1. Download the updater by clicking on the appropriate “DOWNLOAD” button in the right column of this webpage and click on the “Save” button of the File Download dialog. Select a temporary location on your hard drive to store the download file. Important: Do not click on the “Run” button of the File Download dialog until after the file has been saved to your hard drive. This is because the updater cannot be run over the internet. It must be run from your computer.
  2. After the updater file has been successfully saved to your computer it is now okay to click on the “Run” button of the File Download dialog. Before doing so, make sure that Eminence Designer is not running and its on-screen manual is not open. Then click on the “Run” button to launch the updater in the file you just downloaded. If you don't want to run it right away, you can double-click on the file later.
  3. Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista users: After the updater is launched, a system message will appear stating: “An unidentified program wants access to your computer”. Make sure that “ed111m.exe” is listed and then click on the “Allow” button. The Eminence Designer updater should now run.
  4. The updater will search your computer for your copy of Eminence Designer and it will update it and/or its on-screen manual with the new one. It is normal for it to pause while it searches your computer's hard disk for the old version of the program. The larger your hard drive, the longer it can take. An error message will appear if it cannot locate an existing copy of Eminence Designer.
  5. Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista users: A few seconds after the updater has finished, another system message may appear stating “This program may not have installed correctly”. As long as you did not receive an error message during the update, it should have been successful and you can click on the “This program installed correctly” button.
  6. 1.0.11 update (all versions of Windows): Manually remove the link to the old Eminence Designer user manual from the Start menu. It should be located at “Start > All Programs > HT Audio”. Right-click on the “Eminence Designer On-Screen Manual” entry and select “Delete” from the pop-up menu. In the future, you can run the new on-screen manual from within Eminence Designer from its Help menu by clicking on the “F1” key while the program is running.

Notes: Your Windows user account will need “administrator” priviledges to run the updater. Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista users: When you start the updater, you will be asked to confirm that you want to run the updater and, after it has completed, you will be asked to confirm that it functioned properly (described in Steps 3 and 5 above). You can determine this by checking the version number on the Eminence Designer title window as described below.

How to identify which version of Eminence Designer is installed on your computer

The easiest way to identify the version is to launch Eminence Designer. The version will be displayed in the upper left corner of the title window as shown below:

The Version Number is circled in red.

If the program is already running, you can select the “About Eminence Designer” command from the Help menu to display the title window.

If the program is not running, you can check the version with the Windows Explorer. Navigate to the folder where Eminence Designer is installed (the default path is “c:\Program Files (x86)\Eminence” for 64-bit Windows and “c:\Program Files\Eminence” for 32-bit Windows). Then right-click on the program file, “EDesigner1.exe”, and select “Properties” from the pop-up menu. (Note: Windows may not be configured to show file name extensions so you may see only “EDesigner1” instead of “EDesigner1.exe”.) The “File Version” is listed at the top of the “Version” tab. The file date is labeled “Created:” and is located on the “General” tab.

While Eminence Designer is a 32-bit application, it has been tested under 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista and it worked fine.
